“MARTENICHKI FOR HOPE” – A CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES

01-05.03.2010

The goals of the campaign “Martenichki for all” (martenichki – traditional Bulgarian symbols of intertwined white and red woolen threads, signifying renewal and health and the coming of spring) was to make more people aware and involved in the problems of people with mental disabilities. The giving of a martenhicka with a message of good luck and good health connects us to the others around us and brings a spirit of friendship and hope for the people with mental disabilities.

Our friends from store “MITRA DAR”, Varna took a big part in popularising the event and gathering means for our sport and cultural projects for people with mental disabilities. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, friends!

Over 150 hand made martenichki carrying the logo of “Shining Dawn” were given as presents to Shumen citizens with good will messages for the entire year.
During the campaign we visited the Home for adults with mental disabilities – Lozevo and presented martenichki to all people housed at the institution. A big red heart was our present to them as a symbol of friendship, to give them strength and remind them that there is always hope where there is love and humanity.

On the invitation of the Nursery Home for Medical and Social Care for Children – Shumen, representatives of association “Shining Dawn” shared with the children their joy of the coming of baba Marta. They exchanged martenizi with the children and staff, and visited the sector Malformation with presents.

We thank for the staff for the invitation, for their warmth and commitment. We thank also all who took part in the campaign!
