“Shining dawn” is a non-governmental organisation founded by a group of people concerned with the condition of life of people with mental disabilities in Bulgaria.

The idea for its foundation came as a result of our experiences in trying, as individuals, to be part of the solution of the problems of the specialised social institutions in our town - Shumen.

The clash with the shortcomings of the system, with bureaucracy and the prejudices of society prompted us to form an organisation and join our efforts to defend the rights of the people with mental disabilities subjected to discrimination and social isolation.

“Shining Dawn” was registered by Shumen Municipal Courts (March 31st, 2008, FD 29/2008), the Central Register for Non-profit Organisation of the Ministry of Justice and the Agency for Social Support at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
