Between 15 - 24.9 2010 Warsaw will hold the European Youth Games Special Olympics. Expected are more than 1600 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 57 countries in 9 sports, 600 coach, 2000 volunteers and over 200 officials. Bulgaria has a quota of 20 athletes with intellectual disabilities and partner in four sports - basketball, athletics, bowling and badminton.

At the end of December at the National Sports Academy - Sofia was held the Second National Basketball Tournament for children and youth with and without intellectual disabilities. The contest was part of the European Basketball weeks supported by Special Olympics and was devoted to the International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3. 

A total of nine teams from Velingrad, Shumen, Kubrat, Veliko Turnovo, Dimitrovgrad, Haskovo, Sandanski, Gotse Delchev and Pazardzhik allocated in three age groups...

This year, between 1-3 October in Sofia, took place the national Summer Games of Special Olympics. Founded in 1968 by Kennedy Yuenis Shrivar and driven by volunteers for the benefit of people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics provides participation in Olympic sports for more than 3000 athletes in Bulgaria and more than two million athletes in over 150 countries. This is an independent organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
